Watkins Ludlam Law Firm Combining with New Orleans-based Jones Walker
William H. Hines, Managing Partner of the law firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrère & Denègre L.L.P, and Dennis W. Miller, Chief Executive Officer of the law firm of Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis, P.A., today announced plans to combine firms. The combination, approved by the shareholders of Watkins Ludlam and the Jones Walker partnership this month, is to be effective on or before January 1, 2012. The combined firm will have more than 375 attorneys. The transaction adds 67 new attorneys, one government relations specialist, and three Mississippi offices in Jackson, Gulfport, and Olive Branch to the Jones Walker firm.

Advance Mississippi Report: Electricity Rates in MS 14% Below National Average
Electricity rates in Mississippi are lower than many other areas of the country and the national average according to a detailed report issued today by Advance Mississippi. A review of the average residential rates shows customers in the state are paying 14% less on average than the rest of the country, while a review of commercial rates shows commercial rates in Mississippi are 9% below the national average.

Retail Center Revitalization Summit Held Today in Jackson, Miss.
Today, the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) held a Retail Center Revitalization Summit in Jackson, Miss., to roll out the agency’s pilot Retail Center Revitalization Program. The pilot program is designed to test the effectiveness of partnering local units of government with retail center owners to make improvements to certain shopping centers, commonly referred to as “strip malls,” in a way that contributes to ongoing coordinated revitalization efforts in local communities.

Mississippi Creative Economy Study Unveiled at Creative Economy Summit in Jackson
Yesterday, August 10, the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) and the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) hosted a Creative Economy Summit at the Jackson Convention Center in downtown Jackson, Miss. At the event, Governor Haley Barbour and officials from MDA and MAC introduced and rolled out a new study of Mississippi’s creative economy.
